BEECHCROFT ST PAUL’S CHRISTIAN CHARACTER

Learning together, valuing each other, enjoying today and tomorrow, sharing Christian values and worship.

Beechcroft St Paul’s became a Voluntary Aided Church of England school in September 2003. Since that time the school has grown in Anglican ethos, demonstrated on a daily basis through acts of collective worship, and the ethos and spirituality that pervade the school.

The school encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experiences and opportunities it offers.

The school is very proud of the strong links with St Paul’s church. Throughout the year the children, staff and congregation jointly celebrate seasons, life events and special times in the life of the school and the church.

Our distinctive Christian character can only be appreciated by visiting the school and talking to its members.  Christian values and beliefs inform and find expression in the way we ensure that Every Child Matters.

Children are given an opportunity to learn and reflect on a daily basis in places and at times when they feel safe, secure and able to explore their life, feelings about themselves, God and our world (John 10.10 “I came that they may have life and have it in all its fullness”)

These explorations are summed up and offered during collective worship and during individual reflective moments.

Families are encouraged to take an active part in the worship in church and school.

We deliberately aim to develop a ‘can do’ culture, helping children to grow in confidence as they explore the world around them, new vistas in learning and as they relate these to Christian tradition.

The children develop an ownership and pride in their school community with older children supporting and helping the younger children in a variety of ways. The pride in school can be seen in the children’s desire to share and celebrate with the wider and local community.

A church visit

Through RE, collective worship and daily school life we seek to nourish faith, awareness of other world faiths and promote understanding and tolerance through discovering common ground.

The use of language of prayer, awe, wonder and worship is always on offer and encouraged. Through their time at Beechcroft St Paul’s we believe pupils develop a moral strength and spiritual depth to meet life’s challenges now and in the future.

The curriculum not only follows national requirements, but is planned and delivered with space to enable learners to have time to reflect on ideas and celebrate their achievement and that of others as they learn.
