General curriculum information
Your child will follow a curriculum planned in accordance with the National Curriculum and other nationally prescribed guidelines. We aim to offer a broad and balanced curriculum, matched to the needs of individual children, by planning for appropriate support and extension throughout. All children have an equal entitlement to the full range of the curriculum.
Reception pupils follow a Foundation Curriculum planned around Early Learning Goals, which are: Personal, Social and Emotional skills, Communication, Language and Literacy, Mathematics, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Physical and Creative development. Structured play continues to feature as they make the transition from pre-school towards the demands of the National Curriculum. In addition to the teachers, two nursery nurses are employed to address the needs of the very young.
Special Educational Needs
Children assessed to have special educational needs will be catered for through the Code of Practice for special needs. They may be supported in class, given differentiated work, or withdrawn for additional input. They may be referred to specialist services (such as speech therapy, occupational therapy or the educational psychologist). Their needs are kept under regular review by the class teacher, with the guidance of the special needs co-ordinator, and parents are kept fully informed of progress. A full copy of our Special Needs policy is available at the school, and can also be found on our website.
